Do children today grow up too quickly? Give 3 reasons why you think so.
No, I do not think that children today grow up too quickly. Instead I feel that they are too eager to grow up. Some even to the expense of their childhood.
Some says that children today grow up too quickly as statistics have shown that 4 out of every 10 teens are in a relationship. However, this cannot prove that they grow up too quickly. With news of underage girls being pregnant and the higher percentage of teens getting sexually transmitted diseases, this shows that the mentality of teens are not matured yet. The fact that they are unable to protect themselves from danger shows that they have not grown up yet.
Take a look around you now. You can easily tell from the actions of teens that they have not grown up. For example, at the supermarket. Some teens will use the trolley as their 'toy', pushing their friends in it all around. They have not realized that they have indirectly caused disturbance to others and create a dangerous environment. Teens not being able to be considerate and think of the consequences also shows that they have not grown up.
Teens today are easily influenced. Be it by their peers, media or even by the society. Most of them follow the trend blindly, and is unable to make their own decisions. Being unable to stand for their own rights also proves that teens today have not grown up. They should be able to resist temptations and stand firm on their values.

ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting point but your examples do not support it in its entirety.
The fact that they are unable to protect themselves from danger shows that they have not grown up yet.
But the question is asking you if they are growing up too fast. So perhaps you could expand on your elaboration above:
They engage in 'adult' activities, perhaps because of the misguided belief that they are old enough to do so. However, their ignorance in recognising the possible dangers/harm that could arise from such actions clearly proves their inability to comprehend fully and thus highlights their lack of maturity.
A similar argument could be used in your point about the inconsiderate teenagers.
What is your last example to show that teenagers are too eager to grow up?
I agree to what you have commented esp. showing example of how the youths have not grown up :D. It is really true. :D though youths may look mature, getting boyfriend as young as 12 years old, having sex and pregnant at 13 years old, this somehow show their immaturity and not their maturity. :D
ReplyDeleteWe can just take 10S416 as an example when we go IKEA to have our lunch. You can see example to this question :D.
Hmm I also think that children may grow up too quickly in terms of the way they think due to technological advancement and the open mindness of the society. Due to this, they are able to explore and venture into more aspects. When you talk about the increasing number of teenagers getting pregnant, it does show that teenagers have yet to grow up, mentally.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up too quickly could mean that youths are trying to act like adults, but not necessarily think like an adult. There is a difference between these two, i think.
ReplyDeleteyouths may be very eager to try out the different things that they may have not done before, perhaps due to age limits. EXamples include clubbing and drinking alcohol. This may be seen as an indication t5hat they are growing up too quickly.
However, this does not mean that they have the high level of maturity that grown-ups have in making heavy decisions. Hence, to say that whether or not youths are growing too fast depends on how you define 'growing up'.
Anw, this is only point of view. peace y'all!
I feel that youths are indeed growing up too quickly. This is partially due to fact that the mass media promotes facts of high maturity to young teens.
ReplyDeleteExamples of such programmes include show's like gossip girl and the O.C. which are catered to teens. The teens in such shows are sometimes potrayed negatively and also the contents expose young teens to the complex relationships that adults experience. Curiosity will cause young teens to pursue such information and attempt to participate in similar activties.
I feel that parents also do play a part in children growing up too quickly. Many parents go to work nowadays and children have to be independent most of the time. They have to be more mature than other teens. However, without much guidance, they often receive a lot of information and knowledge but do not know how to process it well. I guess this is why teen pegnancy comes often.
