how about you?Have you ever wondered what you would speak up for? As the youth of Singapore, what do you expect from the society or government? Will you raise the issues you have in your mind? Well, if you do, do not hide it but instead, voice it out loud- blog about it, post a note on the MOE board, rant about it on youth forums etc. Just to name a few, several issues raised by other youths in Singapore include the places of interest for youngsters or youths to hang out, environmental issue like global warming and health problems due to the haze recently.
In the past, Youths generally hang out in areas like Heeren, Scape Youth Park and Cathay Cineleisure. However, these places have indeed lost its appeal amongst the youths, especially when the Orchard belt has sprang up new players like Ion and Orchard Central. Nevertheless, Youths are still not satisfied with the facilities and shopping malls around. Youths like adventures and excitement, thus they tend to expect more. Some suggest that the government should inject more vitality and vibrantness when designing the Youth Triangle- Heeren, Scape Youth park- and cathay cineleisure, promote activities specifically targeted at youths, organise flea markets, funfair etc.
Next, the weather condition in Singapore is getting from bad to worse. The naturally humid and blistering hot country is currently experiencing a bigger problem, which is haze. As Youth Oylmpic Games is around the corner, many youths have already started training and making preparations. Youths are concern about their health and some even cut short their outdoor practices just to avoid breathing in too much polluted air. This is no doubt a concern for many.
Lastly, regarding global warming, Youths are worried as they know that they'll be left to cope with a warmer world tomorrow if nothing is done to slow carbon emissions today. Just last year, 2009, Singapore has been called the Year of Climate Change by the United Nations. And in Singapore, major initiatives were introduced to tackle global warming. If global warming measures are not taken seriously, many youths will suffer in the years to come. Hence, many are concern about this issue.
We, Youths, are not a bunch of ignorant people. We will stand together as one and voice out our thoughts and opinion. We know what is happening around us and we do care.
We, youths, are concern about the current weather. For example nowadays the haze is getting from bad to worse, this will affect our studying ability, and affect us from cocentrating during lessons. In addition to that we have to fight against the headache the heat has brought us with and run 2.4km during pe under the scorching sun. Thus, we are concerned about the climate change. :)
ReplyDeleteYes I agree that youths desire for more fun and adventurous activities and the government should build more facilities to cater to our needs, other than just building shopping malls over and over again that always have the same brands. I feel that the malls are catered to tourists who have a larger purchasing power, solely.
ReplyDeleteand it's kind of unfair! The government should at least try paying more attention to us youths.
I agree that youths would address the issue of global warming. As much as we cant deny it,we must admit that we are affected by global warming..
ReplyDeleteHowever, youths are willing to make an effort to reduce the impact on the population.(:
Generally, most youths are concered about climate change and make an effort to play their part in saving the earth, by saving electricity, saving water and many more.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are some out there that do not care, and continue to waste these scarce resources of ours.
As youths, we can also play our part by educating others such as our friends and family, teaching them how to save the earth. As this effort grows, saving the earth would not be such an impossible feat anymore.
I agree that youths will speak up to issues, particularly issues that concern them directly and will affect them. This is shown particularly with the upcoming Youth Olympic Games. During the course of nominations, applications and finally, winning the bid for the Youth Olympic Games, weren't there youths to support the bid and celebrate the results, whatever the outcome? Therefore, I believe that Youths will speak up to issues close to the heart.
ReplyDeleteJolene: i think that shopping malls are very cliche and boring too! Our escape theme park and wild wild wet are also too small to cater to everyone's needs. We just can't seem to find fun in Singapore. Thankfully, there's Universal Studio now. How i wish they have student price. $66 is pretty expensive for us :(
ReplyDeleteoh btw im HUIJUN:D
ReplyDeleteI feel that Youths do care about our surroundings, environment and the global issues that are probleming us. Afterall, we are affected by these global issues like haze the possibility of all the ice melting off and the limited resources that we have. We will reuse, recycle and reduce. However, there will surely be some youths that will not put in any effort to protect our Earth.
ReplyDeleteYes youths will speak up if the matters directly concern them only. Hahaha they do not really care about matters that does not concern them
