Yes, I think that peer pressure can help fight crime.
Friends, I believe, are a very powerful source of influence to the people around them. This may be due to the increase in time spent with them, hence having shared interests and beliefs. Friends are able to convince others into as well as out of doing certain things, in this case, crime. Since peer pressure is able to cause crimes to occur, I believe that it can also help to fight crime. However, this depends on the type of friends that one has, which results in the inevitable influence friends has over a person. In this case of Hong Kong, teenagers are roped in to reduce piracy online simply by reporting the links to the relevant authorities. This simple action may help reduce piracy on the internet as the teenagers' friends may be afraid of being reported, hence reduce piracy activity or stopping it completely. Hence, peer pressure is able to help fight crime.
Secondly, as teenagers go through the periods of emotional changes, they may feel that their friends are of better advice compared to their parents. This may be due to their belief that their friends understand them more than their parents. Teenagers may feel that the generation gap between them and their parents is a barrier between them, hence the reduction or worse, breakdown in communication. However, in friends, they feel and trust that friends will always lend a listening ear and give sound advice which they will listen to. Hence, peer pressure is a more effective way of fighting crime than parents.
All in all, I feel that peer pressure, if used correctly, will be able to help fight crime. As friends are a great source of influence to others, if peer pressure used correctly, can help lead a teenager away from the life of crime, hence fighting crime.
i totally agee that peer pressure can help fight crime as we can be easily influenced by peers due to the long interaction duration everyday.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. i do agree that peer pressure can help to fight crime. Friends, are a very vital part of teenager's life. Due to the long school hours, friends are the ones whom we spend msot of our days with. Therefore, what they have to say or what they think have a relatively great influence on our lives.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree. Friends are judged more highly upon than parents in some teens' lives. They often feel that their friends understand them better as there is no generation gap.
ReplyDeleteHuiJun here.
ReplyDeleteYup, i agree with chermaine! As a matter of fact, we spent more time with our friends (in school) as compared to our parents- whom we only see at night or during the weekends. Hence, friends play vital roles in our lives. Friends gave us advices and listen to us in times of trouble, thus we tend to trust them more. As such, we are also easily influenced by them. For example, if your friend commented that smoking is childish and that she would not want to be a friend of a smoker, i'm sure that you would definitely discard the idea of 'smoking' off your mind!
Yes, I agree that peer pressure can be of great influence to youths. Since friends usually spent more time together, their actions can affect one another greatly.
